Egg Shisha – Handmade Bowls from Japan

The bowls from Egg Shisha, originating in Japan, are true works of art. Those familiar with ceramic craftsmanship know that Japan has a long-standing tradition in this field. Many Japanese value their handcrafted ceramic ware so highly that they prefer to repair broken pieces with gold rather than discard them – a technique known as Kintsugi.

Egg Shisha founder Takahiro Wakamura comes from this rich tradition of Japanese ceramic artistry. For Wakamura, a hookah bowl is just as symbolic as a sake cup or a traditional tea bowl. All of these represent community and connection, which is why he set out to design a truly unique series of hookah bowls that are not only functional but also aesthetically exceptional.

The bowls are made by master potter Katsumi Ando, who brings over 40 years of experience in the art of pottery. Each bowl is meticulously handcrafted from heat-resistant, high-quality ceramic and stands out thanks to exceptional color glazes and a clean, refined design. The Rikyu bowls from Egg Shisha combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design, making them a perfect choice for lovers of the extraordinary.

Tradition Meets Functionality

The bowls from Egg Shisha are crafted using an elaborate process. A specially blended clay mixture is fired at high temperatures of 1200°C. This high firing temperature results in a particularly durable and long-lasting ceramic that is not only visually striking but also offers excellent heat retention. This has a positive effect on the smoking behavior and ensures even heating of the tobacco.

The design of the Rikyu traditional bowl is inspired by a classic Turkish bowl, with Egg Shisha placing special emphasis on precise craftsmanship. Weighing in at 170g and standing approximately 8.5 cm tall, the bowl sits securely on any hookah and is suitable for both dark blend and Virginia hookah tobacco. With a capacity of 15–20g, it’s perfect for longer smoking sessions. The Agura bowl from Egg Shisha is a phunnel and offers slightly more size and mass with a height of about 9 cm and a weight of just over 200g compared to its traditional counterpart. However, there is no difference in material, craftsmanship, or depot size – both models are identical in these aspects. Whether using Virginia or dark blend tobacco, the Agura delivers top-tier performance.

Each Bowl is Unique

Due to the detailed handcrafting process, every Egg Shisha bowl is one of a kind. Natural variations in shape and color make each one a unique piece of art. This reflects the Japanese philosophy of finding perfection in imperfection – a mindset deeply rooted in the culture of the country.

The unique glaze of each bowl adds to its special aesthetic and makes it a true highlight in any hookah collection. Since the bowls are made of high-quality ceramic, a process known as “bleeding” may occur over time – a natural reaction where molasses seeps into the pores of the material.

Egg Shisha – Perfection from Japan

With the Rikyu bowls, Egg Shisha brings centuries-old Japanese ceramic tradition into the hookah world. Each piece embodies supreme craftsmanship, functionality, and aesthetics. If you're looking for a unique hookah bowl that offers both outstanding performance and artistic value, an Egg Shisha bowl is guaranteed to impress.
